Scholarship

If you are a member of the Filipino American Foundation of New Mexico and a college student (also taking masters, associates or vocational courses), you can apply for scholarship at UNM or directly from FAFNM.

UNM:  College Scholarship of students going to UNM

  1. Requirement:  FAFNM Membership (renewed yearly).  See below.
  2. Visit website or UNM Financial/Scholarship office and ask for the Scholarship funded by the Filipino American Foundation of New Mexico.  This scholarship is decided by UNM, not FAFNM even if fund is provided by us.
  3. Ask them for requirements and deadline.  It is usually in May but this is not definite.

    FAFNM Scholarship

NOTE:  There are many changes on the FAFNM scholarship effective Aug 2017.  The major change is that the scholarship is given only ONCE A YEAR – in the fall.  We will update the detailed information and application here this year (2017).

Every year FAFNM gives college scholarship funds to deserving active and participating members of FAFNM.  The applicant must be a paid member of FAFNM* and must give back to the Filipino community by volunteering and/or participating in FAFNM and other Filipino activities such as joining any of the performing groups (Ethan Sabay Philippine Folkloric Group or Filipino Performing Arts Group), volunteering at the Santacruzan, Pista sa Nayon, Filipino American History Month, oral history and other Events. The scholarship is open to qualified & active students at UNM and other universities/community colleges in NM.  The amount of funds you will receive (if approved) from FAFNM will depend upon several factors: the points you get from the application, the number of applicants, the money available and funds raised (from caroling and other fund raising projects).  (You will find this information in the Scholarship Form.)

*If you are 18 years and older, you must pay and/or renew your INDIVIDUAL membership annually to qualify for that school year.  If you are younger, your family must be active and participating members of FAFNM.  For information and membership form, visit FAFNM.
